Testing the scubuntu base desktop
To test the scubuntu base desktop, there are a number of things to do.
Check the metapackage
On a pristine Ubuntu system, install scubuntu-base-desktop, and confirm that all the dependencies, as described in Profiles/BaseSpec, are installed.
Also check that all the "optional" packages listed in Profiles/BaseSpec are recommended.
Check individual packages
For each of the packages listed in Profiles/BaseSpec, confirm:
- that they start up correctly
- that they function correctly (automated test suites are ideal, else just a few manual tests)
- that they can save to disk
- that they exit cleanly
Completeness
Evaluate the base desktop system in terms of completeness - if there is missing functionality (remembering that it is a base scientific desktop, without domain specific packages), report a bug on launchpad.
