Testing Scubuntu

This page needs a lot of work. for now, we have the following:

testing the CD ISO images

Test images are available at http://scubuntu.meraka.org.za/~tfogwill/scubuntu-test-cdimages/

Testing procedure:

  1. Check, when CD boots, that boot menu uses scubuntu images
  2. Check, when CD boots, that boot menu uses the "scubuntu" text
  3. Iterate over each menu option and check that it works (see below)
  4. Log any issues encountered.

"Try scubuntu" menu option

  1. check that scubuntu usplash theme is used during during startup
  2. check that we get to a live session desktop
  3. check that the scubuntu wallpaper is used
  4. check that the scubuntu icon theme is used
  5. check that the scubuntu logo is used for the Apps menu
  6. Check that there is an "About Scubuntu" menu item under System, with the Scubuntu logo.
  7. click "About Scubuntu" and check that the right help entry opens
  8. Check that firefox, evolution, openoffice, etc are installed and work
  9. Check that scubuntu-base-desktop, scubuntu-biosciences and scubuntu-gis-desktop are installed
  10. Check that all the applications in those profiles (see Profiles for the specifications of these profiles) are installed and that they startup and shut down cleanly

  11. Check that the GNOME calculator (Applications/Accessories/Calculator) defaults to Scientific mode
  12. Check that you can shut down cleanly

"Install scubuntu" menu option

  1. check that scubuntu usplash theme is used during during startup
  2. check that we get to a live session desktop
  3. check that the scubuntu wallpaper is used
  4. check that the scubuntu icon theme is used
  5. check that the scubuntu logo is used for the Apps menu
  6. Check that there is an "About Scubuntu" menu item under System, with the Scubuntu logo.
  7. click "About Scubuntu" and check that the right help entry opens
  8. Check that firefox, evolution, openoffice, etc are installed and work
  9. Check that the GNOME calculator (Applications/Accessories/Calculator) defaults to Scientific mode
  10. check that the installer automatically starts with the desktop
  11. check the text of the installer dialogs/pages - make sure it says Scubuntu (not Ubuntu) everywhere
  12. Check the profiles selection screen (text + content + layout)
  13. Iterate: select a number of options on the profiles selection screen and continue with installation - after reboot, confirm that the installed system is correct (see below)

Installed system

  1. Repeat for each combination of installation options selected above
  2. check that scubuntu usplash theme is during during startup
  3. check that we get to a gdm login screen using the scubuntu theme
  4. log in
  5. check that the scubuntu wallpaper is used
  6. check that the scubuntu icon theme is used
  7. check that the scubuntu logo is used for the Apps menu
  8. Check that there is an "About Scubuntu" menu item under System, with the Scubuntu logo.
  9. click "About Scubuntu" and check that the right help entry opens
  10. Check that firefox, evolution, openoffice, etc are installed and work
  11. Check that the appropriate profiles and their software (as selected during installation - see Profiles for the specifications of these profiles) are installed. Also make sure that no other profiles' packages are installed.

  12. Check that all the applications in those profiles are installed and that they startup and shut down cleanly
  13. Check that the GNOME calculator (Applications/Accessories/Calculator) defaults to Scientific mode
  14. Check that you can shut down cleanly
  15. check the /etc/apt/sources.list file to ensure that out PPA is in there
